The video illustrates a standard siphon method that works by a combination of gravity and atmospheric pressure to drain a shallow pool. The continuous flow is maintained by keeping the hose completely filled with liquid and the outlet below the water level of the source. How the Siphon Works: 1) Gravity: Gravity pulls the column of water in the longer (outlet) leg of the hose downward. This creates a pressure drop (partial vacuum) at the highest point (crest) of the siphon tube. 2) Atmospheric Pressure: The atmospheric pressure pushing down on the surface of the water in the pool is then higher than the reduced pressure at the hose's inlet. This pressure differential forces the water up the hose and over the rim, sustaining the flow. 3) Continuous Flow: As long as the outlet remains at a lower elevation than the source water level and the hose remains filled with liquid (no air breaks), gravity will continue to pull the water down the outlet side, and atmospheric pressure will push more water up into the system to fill the partial vacuum, creating a continuous flow.
